CARS.

Whether it is transport from A to B, a love affair with four wheels or a balance of both, there is no arguing that cars play a massive role in society. So what's changed over the past 30 years?

Cars are now packed full of technology. They can park themselves, connect to every smart device known to man, ooze safety features, and, now in our drive towards electric energy, are even leaving traditional fossil fuels behind. Manufacturers place massive emphasis on marketing strategies, reducing costs and maximizing profit.

BMW recently launched their new 8 series, and as a classic 8 series owner I had to see one. BMW M Car Sofia welcomed me to have a little look...lovely car, representing the modern world we live in today. All the bells and whistles, radar guided this, voice activated that, automatic everything.

However, my old 8 has pop up headlamps, pillarless windows and pulled a bigger crowd outside. End of. Yes, I am still a small boy at heart.

As a motoring society we have gained ease of use, safety and a ridiculously high level of gadgetry. Gadgets which will go wrong one day. And cost money. Time. Inconvenience. Frustration. After all, if you are used to driving a car that parks itself, and one day the sensors fail with a red warning sign and a heart attack inducing chime, instructing you to drive to the nearest dealer, then what?

Perhaps you realize you cannot park a car yourself anymore, your important meeting starts, and the dealership can't fit you in until next week. Your warranty is up, you had planned an extravagant holiday, but that might have to wait.

Sensors cost money you know. It is not a simple as fitting them, they must be programmed of course. And half the front of the car needs to be stripped to do so. Be ready to spend. For every high tech gadget a car doesn't have, there is one less thing to go wrong and upset you.

But that is just my view, this whole blog is about triggering good conversation and light-hearted banter. Thoughts welcomed below. How have cars changed over the last 30 years?
