Old vs New

IT TAKES MORE TIME TO CHOOSE A BULB. It took me 1 hour to buy a bulb recently. And a further 30 minutes to return it. It was the wrong fitment. When we needed a new bulb in the 80's, the biggest head scratching choice was 40W vs 60W. Or going for the beast of a 100W. Which one would provide sufficient illumination without blinding you? And not burn your lampshade. Easy solution, you bought both and tried them. Sometimes, you even had the choice to spoil yourself and opt for pearl. Fast forward to 2019 and we can see that today's choice and variant rich world has also influenced the humble old bulb to flex it's muscles and become not so humble. From fitments to wattage, all the way through to mood setting, consumption and shape, with the choice of LED or traditional filament thrown in for good measure, there is a bulb for every occasion. And it takes time to first workout which bulb you actually need, then decide on what variant of it you really want. Thomas Ed

WE ARE GETTING BIGGER. Despite the endeavor to drive smaller cars so there is room for everybody, our efforts are thwarted by one simple fact. Cars are growing. As time has passed, and the latest generation of Mini is upon us, and boy is it upon us because it is huge , this now modern classic Mini in question from the ‘Noughties’ is looking more and more like it’s Daddy. The classic 60’s Mini. The original tiny pocket rockets not only produced entertainment on screen in the first Italian Job movie, but they brought fun, trendy and economical motoring to the masses. Not to mention their success in the Motorsport world. So has the 'Noughties' Mini stamped it’s authority in the same spirit as the old? Absolutely. ADDICTED TO CHARGING. We carry an assortment of chargers for our phones, tablets and mp3 players. God forbid we should run out of battery on any of these adopted bodily organs. Both have a traditional engine and a battery. However... The mighty Mercedes only uses a battery to fire up, then roams the roads continuously purring from it's exhaust, stopping only when hungry for a 5 minute drinking session at a petrol station. Where everybody takes a photo of it and gives you the thumbs up. The cheeky little i3 on the other hand uses a modern day battery to actually go places. Quietly. Alongside a top up from the pumps, it also needs plugging in for a few hours to keep the main source of energy alive. The battery. This is where the new

RELATIONSHIPS. The world around us has moved on, and thus so have our relationships. With everything at our finger tips, coupled with an intense array of choice, perhaps we have left behind what the almighty pairing of Mickey and Minnie once promised. Togetherness. Here we see the two little mice happy as can be, advertising cereal in the Balkans. Mickey is always smiling as is Minnie. But perhaps they are from an era when folk had less choice, and life was a little bit calmer. Calm enough to accept someone into your life, and dare I say it, with it being 2019 and all, compromise with someone for the greater good. Whether you are male or female, in today's fast paced action packed entertainment-addicted world, the word compromise is a dirty word. And not in a good way. PHONES. Guess which two items in this photo share something in common? Yep. Both the egg and modern day smart phone both break when you drop them. The egg gives us the infinite argument of what came first. The chicken or the egg? The smart phone gives us the world at our finger tips, and for today's 'always online' generation, this is marvelous. But damn, when it breaks... You are cut off from the all important feed of Facebook and Insta, can't access your always available sidekicks on Whatsapp or Viber, not to mention to see who's liked you back on Tinder, it is like you are dead and staring back from up above at your isolated body. A body that is ironically surrounded by real, warm blooded walking talking humans. But those online who are no longer at your finger tips, matter most. The real people do not matter, who cares? The lovingly known "brick", aka the almighty classic Nokia, is still robust, compact to fit into your pocket without

CARS. Whether it is transport from A to B, a love affair with four wheels or a balance of both, there is no arguing that cars play a massive role in society. So what's changed over the past 30 years? Cars are now packed full of technology. They can park themselves, connect to every smart device known to man, ooze safety features, and, now in our drive towards electric energy, are even leaving traditional fossil fuels behind.
